IRAQ

“Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Journalists in Iraq”

The programme aims at promoting the protection of HRD’s and media professionals promoting the implementation of relevant Human Rights laws. It also provides professional technical support to Iraqi media organizations to create and safeguard a safe working environment for journalists. All the activities give special attention to gender issues, in order to strengthen the role of female HRD and journalists.

The project contributes to enhance the protection of human rights defenders through coordinated actions of networking, capacity building, reporting and information diffusion, increasing assistance to human rights defenders in urgent need of protection, through the activation of Civil Society in Europe and globally. The project should be complemented by an ad hoc advocacy campaign in Europe on Iraq human rights situation and the protection of Iraqi refugees and human rights defenders.

“Trade Union Capacity Building”

This will be a joint-project between Un Ponte per… and Fiom. It aims at the training of leaders of Iraqi trade unions and training for 10 activists, members of the same trade unions whose leaders will take part to the vocational trainings given in Italy. The project is under evaluation by ILO.
