I detenuti e le detenute nelle carceri irachene English Version

Nel corso della dolorosa vicenda del sequestro di Ra’ad, Manhaz, Simona e Simona è stata sollevata, da parte di un gruppo a noi sconosciuto, la questione delle condizioni dei detenuti nelle carceri irachene - e in particolare delle detenute - mettendola in relazione al sequestro. Questo collegamento non ha senso. I quattro rapiti e la nostra organizzazione a cui appartengono non sono responsabili né dell’occupazione né della violazione dei diritti umani in Iraq che abbiamo da sempre denunciato. La nostra organizzazione non ha legami con il governo e non ne determina la politica.

Allo stesso tempo la questione dei detenuti in Iraq non nasce dal nostro sequestro. È stata denunciata da tempo da molte organizzazioni indipendenti ed è stata portata all’attenzione dell’opinione pubblica mondiale con lo scandalo delle torture ad Abu Ghraib. Anche noi abbiamo da tempo raccolto testimonianze di abusi commessi dalle forze occupanti, con le quali stavamo preparando un dossier, e allo stesso tempo abbiamo preso contatti con avvocati per formare un collegio internazionale di difesa dei diritti umani che si occupi della questione nelle carceri irachene.

Stiamo vivendo in prima persona il dramma di avere i propri cari prigionieri in luoghi sconosciuti senza sapere perché. Sappiamo di condividere questo dramma con tante famiglie irachene che hanno parenti detenuti. Abbiamo compreso meglio cosa significa questo dramma che ci ha rafforzato nella determinazione a occuparci di questo problema. Sarà un impegno a cui ci dedicheremo quando questa terribile vicenda sarà finita. Chiediamo anche che il Governo italiano dia seguito all’impegno di attivarsi per ottenere il rilascio dei detenuti ingiustamente incarcerati in Iraq e per quelli in stato di detenzione il pieno rispetto della Convenzione di Ginevra.

Fatene buon uso. In Iraq ci sono tante persone ostaggio della guerra.

Men and Women prisoners in Iraq Versione Italiana

During the grievous event of Raad, Manhaz, Simona and Simona unlawful restraint, a group we don-t know, has raised the issue on the situation of prisoners - women prisoners in particular - in Iraq, relating this issue to the unlawful restraint. The four kidnapped volunteers and the organisation they belong to, our organisation, are not responsible at all for the occupation nor for for the violation of human rights in Iraq. We have denounced them from the very beginning. Our organisation is not connected at all with the government and it does not have any power on the government policy.

Nevertheless, the issue of prisoners in Iraq was not initiated by the kidnapping of our volunteers. It was denounced long before by many independent organisations and it was brought before the international public opinion by the shameful event of the tortures in Abu Ghraib prison. Our organisation has been gathering witnesses about the abuses committed by the occupants and we were planning to use them for a possible dossier. We also got in touch with lawyers as we are promoting an international committee for human rights protection that can also be in charge for the situation of the prisons in Iraq.

In these days we are directly experiencing the dram of having beloved people that are under restraint, in an unknown place and for reasons we do not know. We are aware that it is the same tragedy that many Iraqi families that have imprisoned relatives experiences. Our determination to deal with this issue could only grow as it is growing the understanding of this drama. We will dedicate ourselves to this issue as soon as this terrible experience will be over. We request the Italian government to follow up with the commitment taken: to promote the release of the Iraqi people unjust imprisoned and to secure the full respect of Geneva Conventions to the ones under detention.
