Donate a greenhouse
Our commitment to families living below the poverty line in Serbia continues.
Since 2016, we have donated 35 greenhouses to families who owned a piece of land and had no income.
We met some of these families through our sponsorship program, others were referred to us by our local partner, the Red Cross in Kraljevo.
Winter comes early in Serbia, with snow covering the villages near Kraljevo since mid-October. With a small donation you can help a family in Serbia to have food all year round, even when it snows. It is not little, for those who have little.
Serbia is one of the poorest countries in Europe. It is still very rural, with about half of the population living from agriculture. The land still manages to guarantee a dignified life in these parts.
The average salary is € 367 and in the countryside it is halved, making it unthinkable to buy a greenhouse to lengthen the vegetable production cycle, given that its cost is equivalent to more than three salaries: € 1320.
With a small donation you can help provide year-round food to a family in Serbia. Some of the families who have already received a greenhouse manage to make preserves and even, when production exceeds family needs, to sell some products, earning something for other family expenses.
Dragana and Slaven (photo above) is the last family to have received a greenhouse and thanks to it they can now cultivate beyond the normal production cycle, which in these parts is a few months. Snezana also received a greenhouse two years ago and the last time we went to visit her, she proudly showed us her freezer full of preserves.
