Cultural and Environmental Heritage

The conservation of Iraq’s cultural and environmental heritage has been an integral part of our work in support of the Iraqi population for many years.

We support the activists dedicated to the conservation of Iraq’s cultural and environmental heritage, such as the “Save the Tigris and the Iraqi Marshes” campaign; and the “Save Iraqi Heritage” campaign for the conservation of Iraq’s ancient archeological sites, which encourages participatory management of the territory and its collective heritage, as a way of promoting peaceful coexistence between communities.

We believe that the conservation of Iraq’s history, culture and identity for future generations is a powerful way to prevent war.

The 12-year “Lasting Knowledge” programme, made possible by a collaboration with the National Library of Florence, contributed to the restoration and digitalisation of books in the National Library of Baghdad, which were seriously damaged in a fire in 2004.

Together with Italian experts, training courses were provided on the restoration and digitalisation of books in all of Iraq’s public libraries.
