Provision of primary and emergency health care services and environmental protection in North-East Syria

The project, funded by CDCS – Centre de Crise et de Soutien (Ministère de l'Europe et des Affaires étrangères - France) aims at supporting the emergency response to the Syrian humanitarian crisis and at the same time at contributing to the global effort to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the Agenda 2030, through a mixture of humanitarian and stabilization actions.

In particular, the proposed intervention is divided in two components.

The first component is within the Health sector and it aims at supporting the provision of emergency, primary and secondary health care services, including primary care activities in Deir Ezzor Governorate and case management response in preselected hospitals to Covid-19 infectious global outbreak (SDG no. 3).

The second component is within the WASH sector, with a focus on Environmental Health, and therefore it is intersected with the first component. The second component aims at establishing functioning health care waste management systems in several healthcare facilities in the Governorates of Deir Ezzor and Hasakeh. This will allow to strengthen the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) activities carried out in all targeted health facilities and it is directly linked to the Covid-19 response.

Therefore, the following results are expected: Comprehensive Primary Health Care and Hospitals will be fully equipped, refurbished, accessible to the local population and able to provide essential quality primary and secondary health treatment courses and community medicine services, including Covid-19 preparedness and case management. Moreover, at least 3 cities will have functional health waste zones for the disposal of hazardous health waste and health waste segregation.
